Frequently asked questions

What to know after an accident, and how the repair process works.

What should I do if I am in an accident?
  • Stop your vehicle — driving away can be charged as a hit and run.
  • If you are blocking traffic in a dangerous spot, pull to the side or into a well-lit lot.
  • Contact the authorities and check whether anyone is hurt.
  • Be courteous, and avoid statements about who is at fault to anyone at the scene.
  • Take photos before you leave, then contact your insurer once you are calm.
  • Get a copy of the police report, and call us for help with repairs.
Do I have to use the shop my insurance company recommends?
  • No. You have the right to choose your own repair shop.
  • Your insurance company cannot require you to use a particular shop or get three estimates.
  • Drop your car at the shop of your choice and the adjuster can inspect it there. We work for you, not the insurance company.
Can you work directly with my insurance company?
  • Absolutely. We write the estimate and notify you when the vehicle can come in.
  • In most cases the insurer pays us directly, so you only handle your deductible.
I need my car back fast — how does that work?
  • Once the estimate is approved and you authorize the work, we set a timeline and tell you when it will be ready.
  • Quality work can take a few days. If you need to stay on the road, we can set up a rental, and in many cases coordinate it with your insurer.
Why can repair estimates differ so much?
  • An initial estimate is only a starting point. Hidden damage often appears once panels come off, so a repair may have one or more supplements.
  • A lower estimate sometimes leaves off parts or operations your vehicle actually needs. It is your car — you deserve a complete, quality repair.
